Thanks Don F. Gladwell definitely has a knack for the bite-sized info nugget, which is probably why I love him so. Nuggets are tasty.

At the risk of giving Phil the small satisfaction of knowing he influenced my reading habits, I read this article, started browsing through Gladwell's archives, and ended up reading Blink. It was quite an enjoyable read - I think what I really appreciated was Gladwell's ability to boil down what could be weighty (read: possibly boring) scientific/social/psychological topics into bite-sized nuggets with his timely use of interesting anecdotes.

Actually, I haven't read "Blink", but I really mean to do so. I have read "The Tipping Point", which was enjoyable. What aspect of the cookie article was the one you mention critical of? I sort of took exception to the characterization of the work as open-source in style, but I really liked the food science bits.

I read a criticism of this article a while back -- wish I could find it to link to. The criticism was pretty convincing, but Malcolm is still a very persuasive and entertaining writer, so I too will continue to be a, as you say, "fanboy." Have you read "Blink"?
